Nephron Diagram Labelled with Its Different Parts

We all know that humans have two kidneys. But have you ever known each of our kidneys is built with millions of filtering units that are called nephrons. So nephrons are very important parts of our kidneys. The main function of nephrons is - Filtration, Excretion, Secretion, and Reabsorption.

Each nephron also includes a filter that is called a glomerulus, and a tubule. The nephrons work following two processes. The first one is the glomerulus filters our blood, and the second one is the tubule returns needed substances to our blood and removes wastes.

Anyway here, we are going to see the Nephron Diagram and Its Different Parts. This is a very simple diagram and very easy to draw. So it will be very helpful for class 9, 10 or 11 students. The internal scientific diagram of the nephron will help you to understand more about the nephron.

Nephron Diagram and lebeled with its important parts

The main parts of the nephron shown in the above diagram are,
  1. Efferent Arteriole
  2. Afferent Arteriole
  3. Glomerulus
  4. Bowman's Capsule
  5. Proximal Convoluted Tubule
  6. Henle's Loop
  7. Collecting Duct

You know there are two basic types of nephrons are there - Cortical Nephrons and Juxtamedullary Nephrons.

The majority of nephrons are the Cortical type. They start high in the cortex and have a short loop of Henle that does not penetrate deeply into the medulla. But the Juxtamedullary Nephrons start low in the cortex near the medulla and have a long loop of Henle that deeply penetrate into the renal medulla.

Henle's Loop has a 'U' type structure that is shown in the above nephron diagram. After the loop of Henle, the filtrate enters the distal convoluted tubule (DCT). The DCT is responsible for further reabsorption and secretion of substances, particularly regulating the reabsorption of sodium and calcium ions and the secretion of potassium and hydrogen ions.

The final part of the nephron is the collecting duct, which receives the processed filtrate from multiple nephrons. The collecting duct plays a crucial role in water reabsorption and concentrating the urine before it is transported to the renal pelvis and eventually excreted from the body.

Overall, the nephron's intricate structure and functions enable the kidneys to regulate fluid and electrolyte balance, pH levels, and eliminate waste products, helping to maintain homeostasis in the body.
