DC to AC Converter(Inverter) Circuit Diagram and Connection
Hey, in this article we are going to see the circuit diagram of a DC to AC Converter or Inverter that can convert 12-15V DC to 230V AC with up to 100 Watt power output. We can use this inverter circuit with a 12V battery. So if there is no utility power we can use this circuit to operate 230V bulbs. This circuit is not for regular use. If you are searching for an idea for an electronic project then it will be helpful for you. Basically, this circuit first converts the applied 12V DC supply into a 12V AC supply, and then it steps up to a 230V AC supply. Remember that the output of this circuit is not completely sine wave so whenever you connect the load take care of it. It is recommended to connect light only. This is a very simple circuit and very easy to build. We need very few components.
Components Required
- IC CD4047 - 1 PCs
- IC IRFZ44N - 2 PCs
- 100 ohm, 10 Watt Resistor - 2 PCs
- A 230V/12-0-12 Transformer
- 22K Variable Resistor or Preset - 1 PCs
- 0.22uF Ceramic Capacitor - 1 PCs
- 12V-15V DC Power Source
Circuit Diagram
Here, you can see the DC to AC Converter(Inverter) Circuit Diagram and the Connection between each component.
Connection Procedure
- Connect pin no 4(Astable'), pin no 5(Astable), pin no 6(-trigger), and pin no 14(Vcc) of the IC 4047 to the positive terminal of the power source.
- Connect pin no 7(Ground), pin no 8(+trigger), pin no 9(Ext Reset), and pin no 13(Retrigger) of the IC 4047 to the negative terminal of the power source.
- Connect the series combination of a ceramic capacitor and preset across pin no 1(R), pin no 2(C), and Pin no 3(RC common) of the IC 4047.
- Now connect the gate terminal of both IC IRFZ44N to the output terminals(Q-10, Q'-11) of the IC 4047 in series with a 100 ohm, 10 Watt resistor.
- Connect the source terminal of both IC IRFZ44N to the negative terminal of the power source.
- Connect the drain terminal of both IC IRFZ44N to the 12V terminals of the transformer.
- Connect the 0V terminal of the transformer to the positive terminal of the power source.
- The 230V terminals of the transformer can be connected to the 230V loads.
- Now connect the 12V to 15V DC power supply to the circuit to get the 230V output from the transformer.
Operation and Working Principle
The IC 4047 is used to create a pulse signal to operate the IC IRFZ44N. When the output Q is high the output Q' will be low and vice versa. As the outputs are connected to the MOSFET ICs so they will turn on when getting the pulse signal. The MOSFET ICs turn on and turn off alternatively so the transformer will get an alternating power supply. And the transformer will step up this alternating power supply. So basically, the two MOSFET ICs convert the 12V DC supply into 12V AC with the help of the pulse signal provided by IC 4047. Then the 12V AC supply is converted into 230V AC supply by the transformer. Here, the 230V/12-0-12V step-down transformer is connected in reverse so it steps up the voltage instead of stepping down the voltage. We can vary the duty cycle of the output pulse signal from the IC IRFZ44N so the output voltage and current also be varied.
