PS/2 Connector PinOut Diagram(Male and Female Ports)

The PS/2 connector is also known as the Mini-DIN connector. It is a type of computer connector used to connect keyboards and mice to a computer. It was commonly used in older computer systems before the widespread adoption of USB (Universal Serial Bus) connections. The PS/2 connector is a round, six-pin connector with a plastic housing. As you see in the above PinOut diagram, both male and female PS/2 connectors have six pins as follows,

Pin Functions:

Data (Keyboard/Mouse): This pin is used for bidirectional communication between the keyboard or mouse and the computer. It carries the data signals from the device to the computer and vice versa.

Not Connected: This pin is not connected to any function and is left unused.

Ground: This pin is the electrical ground reference for the connector and helps complete the circuit by providing a common reference point for electrical signals.

VCC (+5V): This pin supplies +5V power to the connected keyboard or mouse. It is used to power the device.

Clock (Keyboard/Mouse): This pin carries the clock signal that synchronizes the data transmission between the device and the computer. It ensures accurate and synchronized communication.

Not Connected: Similar to Pin 2, this pin is not connected to any function and is left unused.

Male Connector: The male PS/2 connector refers to the connector with pins or prongs that protrude from it. It has a cylindrical shape with a set of pins arranged in a circular pattern. This type of connector is typically found on the end of cables or adapters that are intended to be inserted into a female PS/2 port.

Female Connector: The female PS/2 connector refers to the connector with corresponding holes or receptacles. It has a cylindrical shape with a set of holes that match the arrangement of pins on the male connector. This type of connector is typically found on the computer's motherboard or an external PS/2 port where the male connector is inserted.
