How Solar Tracking System Works? Learn with Block Diagram

In this article, we are going to see the block diagram of the whole solar system with its tracking mechanism, power generation, and power conditioning. A solar tracking system is a mechanism or device that enables solar panels or solar collectors to follow the movement of the sun throughout the day. The purpose of a solar tracking system is to maximize the amount of sunlight received by the solar panels or collectors, thereby increasing their energy output. Solar tracking is must require to get the maximum output and properly utilize the system.

A solar tracking system achieve maximum output by automatically orienting the solar panels or collectors to face the sun as it moves across the sky. By tracking the sun's position, the solar panels can maintain an optimal angle of incidence, ensuring that they receive the maximum amount of sunlight throughout the day.

Here, you can see the block diagram of solar tracking that explains how the solar tracking system works.

Block Diagram of Solar Tracking System

As you see in the above block diagram, the solar tracking system has the main following components,
  1. Solar Panels
  2. Sun Tracking Mechanism
  3. Light Sensors
  4. Controller
  5. Power Conditioning Unit
  6. User Interface
  7. Communication Interface
  8. Power Output

Remember that the elements listed above provide a general overview of the main components involved. The actual system may require further expansion based on the specific design and features of the solar tracking system.

The above block diagram helps in understanding the overall working principle of the Solar Tracking System. Such as,
  1. The Light Sensors detect the intensity and direction of sunlight.
  2. The Controller receives input from the Light Sensors and calculates the optimal position for the Solar Panels.
  3. The Sun Tracking Mechanism adjusts the position of the Solar Panels based on the instructions from the Controller.
  4. The Solar Panels capture sunlight and convert it into electrical energy.
  5. The Power Conditioning Unit conditions the electrical output from the Solar Panels, regulating it and preparing it for use or storage.

Also, you can see the block diagram clearly illustrates the flow of information and control signals between the different components. It shows how the Light Sensors provide input to the Controller, which then controls the Sun Tracking Mechanism to adjust the position of the Solar Panels. The electrical output from the Solar Panels is conditioned by the Power Conditioning Unit for utilization or storage.

The controller is connected to a user interface allows the system operator or user to monitor and control the solar tracking system. It can consist of a graphical display, buttons, or a touch panel, providing information on system status, energy production, and configuration options. The controller of the solar tracking system also can communicate with external devices or systems using the communication interface that includes Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or other communication protocols for remote monitoring, data logging, or integration with smart home or building management systems.
